Fri 28th, Day TWO:
Updated draws: www.squashsite.co.uk/2009/britishjuniors2011.htm
Main Draws got underway today at the NSC. The BU17 started the day off and the top seeds strolled through the first round, however we did see some upsets. The longest match of the tournament so far belongs to Harry Faulkner (Herts) an unseeded player who took 77 minutes to beat 9/16 Tom Lee (Yorkshire) 3-2. Miles Jenkins (Surrey) also caused an upset as he defeated 5/8 seed Alex Pendleton from Wales, 60 minutes for another 3-2 battle! Luke Parker (Leics) is another one having a great run so far, the only qualifier in this category that has made it into the last 16, he took out 9/16 Andrew Taylor 3-1.
The Girls U17 ran much the same as the Boys, with the majority of seeds going through to the next round comfortably. Again there was an upset with a 5/8 welsh player crashing out early, Jenny Haley came up against a determined Joely Bennett (Glos), another 5 set match with Bennett coming from 2-1 down to win 3-2. Alison Thomson (Surrey) daughter of Colets favourite Alan Thomson surprised Nia Kenward 9/16 (Wales) as she moved into the next round with a 3-0 victory.
The U19 boys and girls are playing their first round as I type, so far no real upsets, the boys top seeds are playing well and winning comfortably, the girls top seeds all have a bye into tonights second round. One result to report is Robert Luke, a qualifier from Wales who has booked a place into the last 16 with a win over 9/16 Josh Taylor (Leics), Luke will now have a tough match against 3/4 Adam Auckland.
The Northern Day 1 – Morning
Day one at the northern and already an upset in the top half of the girls U13 draw, Rawan El Kalaawy comfortably beat 9/16 seed Emma Campion 11/4, 11/5, 11/2 in 12 minutes. Anna Young tested 5/8 seed Laura Neil taking her to 5 sets with Neil coming through 13/11 in the 5th.
In the Boys U13 the qualifiers were out in force with 4 of them knocking out 9/16 seeds. Nick Wall, William Henden & Lewis Southward all beat their counter parts. Ryan Burrell Grant also continues his winning run in the tournament as he beat 9/16 Oscar Khoo. A mention must also go to qualifier Daniel Kamel of Wales who managed to get a game off ¾ seed James Wyatt but eventually succumbed to defeat 3-1.
A major upset in the boys under 15 round 1 with unseeded Jamie Todd beating 3/4 seed Ben Windle 3-0. However the top half of the draw has been dominated by the seeds with all progressing through to round 2.
In the girls under 15 all seeds in the top half progressed. The only upset was close game between 5/8 seed Aisling Guerzoni losing 3-1 to Amber Peacey.
