Semi Final A

YORKSHIRE V SURREY

Surrey got off to a flying start with 3-0 wins for 4 and 5 strings, however Field kept Yorkshire in the tie with a 3-0 win over Dunn. A close 1st string match between Santa Maria and Tweedle brought Yorkshire level, so it was all down to the 2nd string match between Arrowsmith and Bennett.  Arrowsmith showed her class beating an off colour Bennett 3-0 to take Yorkshire through to the final

MIDDLESEX V KENT

One all after the first 2 rubbers. White staged a great comeback from 2-0 down at 4thstring for Kent. Campion then won at 3rd string to inch Middlesex ahead. In a thrilling 2nd string encounter Hume had the chance to level the match for Kent as at 2 games all she went 7/2 up in the 5th, only to be outdone by an array of winners from Brown, which won her the game 10/8 and her Middlesex team were in the final.  The dead rubber first string match was a nothing of the sort, an absolute stunner, 52 minutes of cracking squash, and a wonderful win from 2-1 down for Akin captain of Kent

Captain and birthday boy Alan Thomson set Middlesex on their way with a comfortable win at 3. New recruit Mick Houlihan put them further ahead winning at 5. Wins for Ockwell , Couch and Jaski took brilliant Middlesex through to yet another final.

Semi Final B

SURREY V LANCASHIRE

Surrey had one foot in the final as firstly Stewart and then Wardle won at 5 and 3. Captain Hurford then secured the win and set up a compelling final with Middlesex beating Hollinrake 3-0 at 4th string. Hyatt made it 4-0 to Surrey.  Meanwhile, the match of the day was unfolding between Aldridge and Willis.  An entertaining tussle saw Willis win 9/5 in the fifth.

MIDDLESEX V YORKSHIRE

Comfortable wins at 3 and 5 strings gave Middlesex a good early advantage over a weakened Yorkshire team.  They pushed the advantage home with 3-0 wins for Cherlin, Adhihetty and Jaski sealing their place in the final, where they look to be favourites

DURHAM &CLEVELAND V SURREY

First blood to Middlesex as Wilde beat Duke 3-0. A strange 3-0 score line between Spence and Niven, saw Durham and Cleveland level things up. Durham went ahead when 1st string Lumsden beat Clarke 3-0. It looked like Surrey would level things up as Eakins went 2-0 up, but Dryden had other ideas and came back to win 3-2 and take Durham through to the final .  In the dead rubber Jackson put in a captains performance coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.

Surrey went 2 up with wins for Dunn and Ledger. Akin pulled one back for Kent at first string, but in a great match between 4th strings Dredge and White, Dredge sealed 3rd place for Surrey 10/8 in the 5th after being 2 -0 down

With 3 national champions in varying age groups, it was going to be tough for Middlesex, even more so when Yorkshire got off to a flier as Field comfortably beat Lillizo at 4th string, and turned the screw as Robins took out Levin at 5.  Arrowsmith secured the victory with a 3-1 defeat of Campion. Horn also won at first string for Yorkshire as did Santa Maria to complete the whitewash

MIDDLESEX V SURREY

A bad start for Middlesex as 5th string Houlihan pulled up with a calf strain in the first rubber. Things got worse as Middlesex when captain Thomson was well beaten by an in form Hyatt. The 4th string match decided the destiny of the trophy, after 2 tight opening games it was 1-1 between Ockwell and Harland.  Harland then took a tough 3rd 10/8, which broke Ockwell who lost the 4th to love, and Surrey were champions. Couch salvaged some pride for Middlesex at 1st string beating Pearman 3-1. Aldridge beat Jaski 3-0 in the other dead rubber. Expect the fierce rivalry between these neighbours to continue next season!

With the exception of Dave Lines and Steve Everitt, Yorkshire let themselves, Surrey and the competition down as they failed to field a full strength team, with no notice. Dave Lines enjoyed a great win over Dave Clarke for Yorkshire, and Jackson won the 2nd string tie for Surrey

MIDDLESEX V DURHAM &CLEVELAND

First blood to Middlesex in the 1st string match as Adhihetty won a see saw encounter with Lumsden  9/2 in the 5th Durham levelled when 5th string Spence beat Goodbourn 3-0 in a match tighter than the score line suggested .

Hardy inched Middlesex ahead as he won at 3rd string against Shields. Durham forced the match to the wire as Dryden beat Cherlin 3-0, with the key 2nd game going his way 10/9. All was decided by the match between Cowley and Shields.  Any edgy Shields did not seem to settle and was overcome 3-0.  Middlesex retained their crown
