Home finalist guaranteed in Hong Kong’s Crododile Cup

The quarter-finals of the 7th Crocodile Cup Challenge saw three home players progress to the semi-finals at Hong Kong Squash Centre.

In the PSA $10k men’s event HK’s top seed and defending champion Max Lee overcame Indian qualifier Mahesh Mangoankar in four tough games, and he’ll meet compatriot Dick Lau, the fourth seed who beat Elvinn Keo in straight games, in a repeat of last year’s final.

The winner’s opponent is guaranteed to be a Malaysian, after third seed Muhd Asyraf Azan came from a game down to beat Kuwait’s Bader Al Hussaini. For the second day in a row 21-year-old Ivan Yuen contested the longest match of the day, taking out second-seeded Australian Matthew Karwalaki in an hour-long five-game thriller.

In the WISPA $16k women’s event the top four seeds all progressed to the semi-finals. Top-seeded Australian Donna Urquhart will meet Hong Kong’s own Joey Chan after both progressed in less than 20 minutes, while Dipika Pallikal, the third-seeded Indian, faces England’s second-seeded Sarah Kippax, the only one of the four to drop a game as she beat Orla Noom in four.
