Squash & Art in Krakow – Final Day

The final day of the Squash and Art festival in Krakow featured Junior, Men’s and Team finals, and more …

Squash&Art – final day (3) – saturday 28/06 2014 step by step:

IMG_85221)  Junior tournament – won by Krakow’s Squash4You Juniors Team, beating in semifinal defending champions Kahuna from  Warsaw 4-1 and in the final ‘black horse of the tournament’ Malaka Squash 5-0 (who earlier won against MySquash Poznan 3-2 in the semifinal) .

Juniors and their coach Matt Kotra had a big surprise after the final – they were invited to Radio Krakow to tell everybody  about their success and their squash experiences … and also take a tour around the studios!

DSC_05442) Men’s tournament – match for bronze medal between Krakow’s McWIL Harrow Squash4You 2nd team and best team from Poznan SquashPark. Poznan was leading 2-0 (6-1 in games) after Tomek Abramowski won against Grzegorz Kaleta 3-0 and Tomek Gałecki won against Staszek Rusek. It looked almost impossible to lose.

Krakow had to win last two matches 3-0 and 3-0. Playing for Krakow Eddie Charlton (~50 PSA) won 3-0 (7,3,0!!!) against very talented Czech player Kuba Solnicky and Michał Kotra won 3-0 against Karol Andrzejczak, giving bronze medal to Krakow.

Historical moment as two teams from one club (McWIL Harrow Squash4You 2 and 1) finished in top 3 of the event, that had more than 100 teams from all over the Poland!

DSC_11963) Final of mens tournament – Great squash night at beautiful setting in the centre of Krakow, with over 600 people watching repeat of 2013 final between two very strong teams:

– This time Warsaw’s Simple Kahuna avenged last year’s loss to defending champions Krakow’s McWIL Harrow Squash4You  (2-2, won by games)  including good start from Krakow (Maciek Maciantowicz beating Kamil Dominiak 3-1), then a relatively easy point to Warsaw (Matt Kotra losing to current leader of polish ranking 0-3).

A great match of professional squash between current world #1 Gregory Gaultier and former #1 James Willstrop , won 3-0 by Gaultier (playing for Kahuna), that gave the  championship title to Kahuna, so the last match between top polish players Julian Kischel and Wojtek Nowisz was only best of 3 , won by Kischel 2-1.

4) Best photo competition (won by Pawel Dziurzynski like last year)

Saturday was also last day of World Squash Federation Coaching and Development conference and course for referees. A lot of good learnings for coaches, referees attending them. And all the people watching top squash for last few days.
