Edmonton fans get their moneys worth

ReidBuilt Homes Edmonton Open, PSA $15k, Round One:

“It was a fantastic start to the Main Round of the ReidBuilt Homes Edmonton Open,” says tournament spokesman Jeff Williams, “we sure got our moneys worth out of the guys tonight – four matches went five games and two more went four games.”

The two who bucked the trend with 3/0 wins were Malaysia’s Kamran Khan and Canada’s own Dane Sharp. Sharp now meets top seed Shahier Razik, who needed the full five games to get past qualifier Scott Arnold, while Khan meets fourth seed Shawn Delierre, whose four-game win over David Letourneau took 89 minutes, the longest match of the day.

In the bottom half second and third seeds Nafiizwan Adnan and Ryan Cuskelly were both taken to deciding games by Hong Kong opponents, Cuskelly edging past Leo Au 11-8 in the fifth after 81 minutes, Adnan having as slightly easier time against Leo Au, 11-3 in under an hour.

Cuskelly faces Dutchman Dylan Bennett, a five-game winner over qualifier Kam Hing Choong while Adnan meets a third Canadian in the last eight, Andrew Schnell.
