UK Inter-County M50/65/65 Finals

INTER COUNTY FINALS – Men Over 50, 60 and 65

11-12 January – London

The historic Coolhurst Club situated in the green fringes of the City of London plays host to 3 male masters Inter County Finals this weekend which will showcase the top Masters players in the country as they vie for success in these championships.

Men Over 50

Avon, seeking to retain their title and led by Andy Killey could be pushed hard by the 3 other counties –Dorset, Middlesex and Yorkshire. In their semi, they will play a strong Yorkshire team who have last seasons’ National Over 50 semi-finalist Ged Martin among their ranks. The first string encounter in the other semi  between Dorset and Middlesex could be a repeat of the National Over 50 final between Martin Greenslade  (Dor) and James Ockwell (Mdx).  On that occasion Greenslade beat Ockwell, but the Middlesex man could have “home” advantage on his side this time.

Men Over 60

Holders Yorkshire will have to be on their toes to fend off stern challenges from CumbriaLancashire and Surrey. Should Yorkshire beat Surrey in their semi, and Cumbria beat Lancashire; semi-finalists from the O60’s Nationals, Ronnie Bell (Cumand Dave Manning (Yks) could play each other at top string.

Men Over 65

Yorkshire will also be defending this title. They face a tricky semi-final encounter with Hampshire, who could have Over 65 National Champion Barry Featherstone at 1st string playing the 3-4 seed from that tournamentMartin Day.  Sussex versus Surrey is too close to call and may depend on if Sussex can call on Philip Aytonat 1st string.

All in all the weekend should prove to be keenly contested with an array of fine squash on show.  Entry for spectators is free throughout the weekend.
