Kuwait Cup Day Three: Uncharted Territory

We’re beginning to like this simple approach to scheduling, long may it last (it actually gets more complicated tomorrow when the ‘FA Cup’ style draw kicks in).

We’re down to the last sixteen and fifteen of those are the players seeded to be there.

The exception is Simon Rosner, who put out fourth seed Amr Shabana, who not only won his fourth world title here two years ago, he has appeared in each of the last four Kuwait finals. Add to that the fact that his opponent in each of those finals was the absent-through-injury Ramy Ashour (they won two each), and you reach the conclusion that in Kuwait terms we’re in uncharted territory.

Still, as long as the SatNav guides us to the Qadsia Club for three matches this afternoon, and to Green Island for five evening matches, we should be ok …

Qadsia Club:

13.45  [5] Gregory Gaultier v [12] Azlan Iskandar
14.30 [6] Peter Barker v [14] Adrian Grant
15.15  [7] Mohamed El Shorbagy v [9] Daryl Selby

Green Island:

18.00 [1] Nick Matthew v [13] Cameron Pilley
18.45  [8] Thierry Lincou v [10] Laurens Jan Anjema
19.30  [3] James Willstrop v [16] Alister Walker
20.15  [15] Stewart Boswell v Simon Rosner
21.00  [2] Karim Darwish v [11] Omar Mosaad
