Over to Kuwait for the Cup

Most of the male players have already left Hong Kong are are in, or on their way to Kuwait for the Kuwait PSA Cup, the penultimate World Series event of the year …

This year it features a new format with a $165k 48-man draw, the top sixteen getting byes into the second round, and (we understand) once we reach the quarter-finals stage there’s a random redraw, FA-Cup style.

Most of the early rounds take place at the Qadsia Club, with selected matches and everything from quarter-finals onward at the spectacular Green Island setting.

One thing is certain – it won’t be a fifth successive Kuwait final between Amr Shabana and Ramy Ashour with Ramy still out of action injured. Everyone else will be there, including us of course.

As this is written Fram should have just arrived, I’m sitting in Hong Kong airport waiting for Air France to take me home, and after one night there Emirates will be whisking me back East to Kuwait … don’t ask.

It’s not finished, but the minisite is www.squashsite.co.uk/KuwaitCup – the draw is there and more will be being added over the next day or so.
