U13/U17 Inter County Finals Results

Finals day in the Under 17 Under 13 Junior ICC Finals at Lilleshall …

Girls U13

Yorkshire, in the first of 3 finals they would be taking part in today, took on Hertfordshire. Yorkshire won the first tie of the match when Emma Gill beat Sarah Scofield 3-0. Hertfordshire levelled things up when Amber Marshall beat Ellen Cooper 3-0 in the 1st string match-up. It went down to the game between Poppie Jaram and Nyah Williams. The Yorkshire U13 proved too tough for the Hertfordshire player and Poppie Jaram took the game 3-0 and secured the trophy for the Yorkshire girls.

Boys U13

Not to be outdone by their U13 counterparts the Yorkshire boys took the second of the day’s 4 trophies on offer when they despatched a Cumbrian side fresh from their 5-0 semi final demolition of Surry yesterday. Keane Appleton was able to take a match for the Cumbria team in his match against Tyler Simpson. However, it was Yorkshire who were triumphant in each of their other matches as Sam Todd, Harry Anderson, William King and Ben Sockett all secured wins.

Girls U17

Gloucester took on Surrey in the GU17 final. Gloucester swept to a 2-0 lead with wins from Florie Smith and Jade Rothman but the score was levelled when Surrey girls Alison Thompson and Kace Bartley took the next two for Surrey. It came down to the match between Amber Peacey and Rawan El Kalaaway. It was Rawan El Kalawaay that took the first game but Amber Peacey stormed back to take the next 3 games and win the tie for and the final for Surrey.

Boys U17

In a hugely entertaining and hard fought encounter in which both teams gave everything they had, it came down to the final game between the two teams. However Surry proved the spoiler for Yorkshire to deny them their third trophy of the day, Surrey taking the tie 3-2.

All that remained was the final presentations and photocall to conclude a fantastic weekend of squash, which was played in impeccable fashion by the players, whose behaviour off court was equally outstanding.

Thanks go to all the referees, England Squash and Racketball, the tournament staff and the venue for helping stage and run a fantastic finals.

  1. The U17 Girls’ results do not match the report. The report says Surrey won, the results say Glos won. Very confusing: and could SURREY always be spelt correctly, please ? :)
