Peter Nicol named new ESR President

England Squash & Racketball is delighted to announce the election of Peter Nicol MBE as its new honorary President.  At its AGM on Saturday the national governing body welcomed  the former World Champion and multiple Commonwealth Games gold medal winner – who also spent a total of 60 months as World No 1 during his illustrious career .

Nicol brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new honorary role and is a valuable addition in an exciting era for the organisation. He succeeds Jackie Robinson, who stands down after six years as President.  Robinson is very pleased about her successor. “I’m delighted to be handing over the baton to Peter.  He was the pre-eminent player of his generation,  and is a wonderful ambassador for the sport throughout the world. I know ESR will be in very capable hands.”

Commenting on his new position, Nicol enthused: “I’m honoured to be elected ESR President at such a young age but it reflects the organisation’s forward thinking philosophy – I’m confident that we can continue to grow the game and excel on the world stage.”

In other business, ESR also said goodbye to Zena Wooldridge after six years as Chairman.  She is replaced in the role by Peter Goldson, a highly experienced board member.  A former county champion and county secretary, Goldson has also served on the ESR board for 10 years, and has over 25 years banking industry experience.

In her parting remarks, Wooldridge said:

“It has been a genuine privilege as Chair to work with such a highly capable and committed ESR team and board. Although there is still much to do, we have a lot to celebrate, with 4 English men and 3 women in the world top 10, the re-establishment of the prestigious British Open as a leading world event, some innovative development work happening to grow the sports,  all underpinned by a strong financial position. Peter Goldson and Peter Nicol will make an impressive leadership team alongside Nick Rider, and I wish them every success”.
