Kalaawy and Fallows claim i Volt titles

Nada El Kalaawy the number 2 Seed won the i Volt WSA Satellite Tournament at St George’s Hill this weekend defeating the home club’s Harriet Ingham in a tightly contested final full of high quality squash. Both players look to have a great chance of breaking into the higher echelons of Women’s Squash in the near future.

The Men’s Final featured the talents of England Junior team mates Tom Ford and Richie Fallows who emerged from a tough field after two days of intense competition. Fallows in his semi final narrowly defeated David Wardle, the tournaments surprise package and conqueror of Alex Ingham the World no 130 in his first round.

Ford had the easier route beating a tired Nick Mulvey at the semi final stage and looked to be the favourite. Fallows showed some classy touches and varied the pace well and managed to stay just on top all the way through another high quality match.

The day also saw the St George’s Hill squash players involved in a 14 a side match as part of World Squash Day. Team 2020 lead by World Number 14 Tom Richards just managed to pip Team 2020 after over four hours of intense competition.

The Club also staged Neil Desai Day which raised funds for The Neil Desai Foundation in memeory of the Surrey squash player who died suddenly on his 22nd birthday four years ago.

Neil Desai’s parents presented awards to Surrey Juniors Alison Thomson 16 and Charlie Lee 14 who are promising junior internationals.

The Neil Desai Foundation raises money for many causes including Cardiac Risk in the Young, which provides free screening for young people. They also support projects abroad including The Food Court which is a group of squash players raising money to build a court in rural South Africa at a recreational centre for orphans.
